This position is part of Cellulose Fibers Business and reports to the Product Line Department Leader. New Bern is a 900-ton/day fluff pulp manufacturing site located in Eastern North Carolina. This is a full-time, exempt position. This position provides daily on-shift leadership of a shift of employees in order to safely and cost effectively meet production and quality objectives.
Key Functions:
Ensures that safety, maintenance, housekeeping and all established procedures and reliable methods are fully utilized.
Implements and coordinates departmental safety processes and education to ensure a safe work environment.
Develops team members through training and coaching and conducts evaluations to provide employees with feedback.
Participates in goal setting and improves and maintains department performance according to set objectives and established goals including safety, quality, process reliability and housekeeping.
Identifies mechanical issues and coordinates necessary maintenance activities.
Resolves employee's issues; administers policies fairly and consistently and assures open communication among all employees.
Provides leadership for regular team meetings and facilitates proactive problem solving processes.
Provides accurate and timely production reporting.
Ensures compliance with all applicable Weyerhaeuser, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Communicates with adjoining Shift Team Leaders on a daily basis.

Requirements:
Strong leadership and proven supervisory skills.
Effective planning, organizational and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and facilitate effective meetings.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and computer skills.
Must exhibit a high regard for safety.
Knowledge of recovery boiler, lime kiln, and water treatment as well as continuous digester and bleach plant experience is a plus.
Knowledge of pulp machine manufacturing and experience is a plus.
Five (5) years of pulp and paper experience with leadership exposure in production, maintenance and/or environmental areas is preferred.
A minimum of 2 years proven leadership, teaming, communication, organizational, and people development skills is required.
Solid understanding of technical aspects of pulp and paper processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead change initiatives.
